The road to serfdom is close at hand. When they get semi-permanent poverty they will split between the extremes . I think this disease is well developed in Spain,Italy and France. The French voters bought the koolaid . When you have unsustainable government spending, high taxes and big deficits/debts more spending and more debt will not resolve the disease. It does show a certain level of delusion and denial.

New Democracy wins a plurality, and is e xpected to form a coalition with Pasok and other pro-bailout parties. Expect a spike in North American stock markets tomorrow Monday.

Unfortunately, while immediate disaster has beem averted, the underlying problems remain whole. I would expect a gentle downward drift in European markets over the next few months.

Slightly OT. I just got an email from a Calgary friend telling my that she had her passport stolen in Athens. She was telling me this as she has applied for a replacement and was using me as a reference to Passport Canada.

Keeping money in any European bank could be risky. Experienced observers say a lot of European money has already moved to North America markets . 50 years of social engineering and creeping socialism is starting to unravel and Mr Market is behind the steering wheel. The trip Europe is going to experience isn't going to be a thing of joy. The countries who didn't adopt the Euro will have a better ride.
